Frequently Asked Questions

How to make great coffee

  1. Fill your pod to slightly more than full and then level it off with handle of the scoop.
  2. Tamp the coffee down gently.
  3. Put your pod in your machine and press the short button for a few seconds to pre-infuse the coffee. We find this gives better crema
  4. Press the short button again for your shot.
  5. If you want a longer coffee drop the pod into the tray below, close the lid and either press the short or the long button again to add more water
  6. Depending on your machine Espresso ground coffee may work however you may find the flow isn’t consistent. If this is the case then either on your home grinder or at your local store grind to about 70% of an espresso grind. Getting the grind exactly right for your pod and machine may take a bit of trial and error.
  7. In terms of strength for those who like a medium strength you should be able to find a blend/roast that works for you from the supermarket or your local roaster.
  8. If you are used to a strong coffee flavour, such as 9/10/11 you will find it difficult to find a blend/roast that gives you the exact same strength. Something like a extreme dark roast will do okay however it may give you bitter flavour.
  9. So due to popular demand we have launched a coffee blend that gives a strong flavour without any of this bitterness and tastes super yummy. You can find it under coffee on our products drop down menu above.

Trouble Shooting:

1. Will the capsule damage my machine?

Our capsule is designed shorter than disposable capsules to avoid the blades/piercer, so its 100% safe and will not damage your Nespresso Original Line machines.

2. Why is my coffee brewed is watery?
There are 2 main reasons for watery coffee

The grind is too coarse: If the grinding is too coarse, the coffee will come out watery, we recommend using espresso or fine grinding.

Not filling enough coffee, we recommend filling around 4.5 to 5 grams of coffee If you fill the coffee the right way using the proper grinding, the coffee result will be close to the original pods.

3. My coffee isn’t what I expected. Is there a way I can improve it?

The coffee brews too slowly or dripping: The grind is too fine. Do not over tamp coffee. Simply fill and apply the sticker lid when grinding is too fine.

There is no crema / the coffee brews too quickly: The grind is too coarse. Apply more pressure when tamping.

Nespresso pods normally mix several blends of Arabica with Robusta coffee to make the coffee taste stronger. If you prefer a more intense coffee ( stronger than what we offer with jolted, you can try mixing Robusta with Arabica coffee, or purchase the blends that are mixed with both beans.

Other Hints:

Descale Your Machine: To keep your machine in top shape, descale it every 6 months or after brewing 200 cups. This helps maintain optimal brewing pressure and extends the machine’s lifespan.

  1. Choose Your Roast Level: Experiment with different roast levels and profiles to find your favorite. You might enjoy various roasts for different drinks:

    • For straight espresso, a lighter single-origin bean works well.
    • For lattes or cappuccinos, opt for a darker roast that can balance with the milk.
    • Combining different roast profiles can also enhance flavor intensity.
  2. Grind Your Beans with a Burr Grinder:

    • If your grind is too coarse, the water will flow through too quickly, resulting in weak coffee. In this case, tamp the coffee more firmly when filling your pod.
    • If your grind is too fine, the shot may pull too slowly, leading to bitterness or even clogging the machine. Avoid tamping the coffee in this scenario.
  3. Store Unused Coffee Properly: If you have leftover ground coffee, keep it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Use it soon, as flavor diminishes over time.

    • Steer clear of storing coffee in the fridge or freezer, as moisture can negatively affect your coffee.
  4. Filling Your Pod: When filling your pod, lightly press the coffee with the back of your scoop. Adjust the pressure based on extraction results next time, and consider how grind level, roast profile, and blend may impact flavor.
